Going back to school after a long time away can be an exciting transition — but also an intimidating one. Whether this is your first classroom experience since high school, your first time in an American institution, or your first pursuit of career training after having children, adjusting to life as a student again doesn't have to be overwhelming. At MSCT, you'll find the support you need to begin training for a successful career in allied healthcare, no matter how long it's been. Here are some tips to ease the adjustment.
Plan Ahead for Each Week
Before your medical office specialist courses begin, plan out your schedule in advance. Having a plan helps you balance your responsibilities and ensures you have enough time dedicated to your studies. Each week, review your upcoming commitments — when your courses are, any deadlines or assignments, and personal commitments like childcare or events. Mapping this out ahead of time helps you ease into student life and adapt to changes in your schedule before they catch you off guard.
Find a Study Space Where You'll Be Productive
Finding a space where you can focus is essential, especially if it's been a while since you've turned in assignments for school. When you begin your Medical Office Specialist program, identify a few places free of distractions — the library, a café, or a dedicated desk at home. The sooner you establish a productive environment, the easier it will be to keep up with your coursework as you settle back into the learning routine.
Build Relationships With Other Students During Your Courses
One of the best parts of being a student is developing friendships with fellow classmates. At MSCT, every student is part of a diverse and multicultural community where everyone supports each other in pursuit of careers in healthcare. Forming connections with other students makes the transition back to the classroom easier — together, you can form study groups, exchange ideas, and work through difficult material through collaboration and interactive problem-solving.
Get Support from MSCT Instructors and Staff
At MSCT, our instructors and staff are committed to student success. While enrolled in the Medical Office Specialist program, you can always turn to faculty for help adjusting to a full course load. One-on-one tutoring sessions are available, and our faculty have years of experience supporting students returning to a traditional school environment. Students also have the opportunity to participate in activities and workshops to build the soft skills needed to excel in the classroom and beyond. With these support systems in place, you'll never have to navigate the process of returning to school alone.
